Frequently Asked Questions
Becoming a Driver FAQs
Who can participate in the cruise?
Any car made in 1996 or earlier is eligible to join. Your vehicle must be in safe working condition, insured, and able to idle along the 5.5-mile route
What defines a classic car?
For the purposes of this event, a classic car is any car that is made before 1996, has historical significance representing a specific era in design and technology, and is in working condition.
Are motorcycles, RVs, or other specialty vehicles allowed?
Not at this time. Only classic automobiles made before 1996 are eligible.
Is there an application fee?
Yes. Early registration (on or before April 30, 2026) is $15. Regular registration (May 1–30, 2026) is $25. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and participate in the cruise will receive commemorative sunglasses, a commemorative certificate, and a limitededition mirror hanger.
May I have passengers?
Yes! All passengers must be properly seated in a designated seating space. Minors are allowed but must be accompanied by an adult.
What if my car breaks down during the cruise?
If your vehicle stalls or experiences mechanical issues:
- Pull safely to the left or right curb
- Notify the nearest volunteer or public safety official
- Remain with your vehicle and wait for instructions
Tow operations will begin after the conclusion of the parade whenever possible.
What speed will we be driving?
Drivers are required to maintain a continuous speed of approximately 8–10 miles per hour while keeping roughly two car lengths between vehicles. Drivers should not speed up to close gaps in the parade.
Can I exit the cruise early?
Unfortunately, no early exits are permitted. The full 5.5-mile route takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.
Can I decorate my car or add signage?
While minimal signage is preferred, tasteful decorations like small flags or route-theme items are allowed—especially those that celebrate Route 66 or your car club. All items must be non-commercial, non-political, and safe for driving. Car clubs may include up to two signs per vehicle, each no larger than 18” x 24”.
Please note: any decoration deemed unsafe or outside of guidelines may be removed or disqualify the vehicle. A good rule of thumb—if you have to ask whether it’s okay, it probably isn’t.
What happens if it rains?
The cruise is a rain-or-shine event. In the case of severe weather, you’ll receive email and text notifications with further instructions. No refunds will be issued.
Will my car be photographed or filmed?
Yes. By participating in the Capital Cruise, you are providing your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded. Your entry constitutes your consent, and grants the show organizers to the unrestricted, perpetual, worldwide right to use, reproduce, edit, distribute, and display your image, likeness, voice, and name in any and all media formats for (but not limited to) marketing, social media, internal communications, or archival purposes.
You waive any right to inspect or approve the finished product, including written or electronic copy, wherein your likeness appears. Furthermore, you waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising from or related to the use of your image or recording.
Can I walk in the parade, pass out items, or throw candy?
No. For safety and to comply with world-record attempt regulations, walking participants, item distribution, and candy throwing are not permitted during the Capital Cruise parade.
Will I receive any commemorative items as a driver?
Yes! Applicants that meet the eligibility requirements and participate in the cruise will receive custom sunglasses, a commemorative certificate, and a souvenir mirror tag to display on your vehicle. Additional T-shirts, keychains, and other promotional materials are available for purchase.
How does our car club become a Partner of the Capital Cruise?
We’d love to have your club involved! Partner car clubs help spread the word, share event flyers with members, and encourage classic car registration. Clubs don’t need a minimum number of participants to be recognized. Email keeley@factor110.com and we’ll send you materials and details. Participating clubs may also receive recognition in our digital program and signage.
How will I get updates before the cruise?
After you register, you’ll receive regular emails with updates, reminders, and route instructions as we get closer to the event.
