Route 66 is turning 100 this year, at the same time that our nation celebrates its sestercentennial. The storied highway is a movie fixture, from Easy Rider to the Pixar movie Cars. It’s celebrated in Nat King Cole’s, (Get Your Kicks on) Route 66 and immortalized in John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. In fact, it’s Steinbeck, in that novel, who called it the “Mother Road.”
