[+]Date : July 13 - 14, 2012Time : July 13-14 at 7:30 p.m. Location : Performing Arts Center, Tulsa Web : http://www.tulsapac.com Janet Rutland will present her eighth SummerStage cabaret show with a celebration of the music of Irving Berlin. I've done jazz, pop, country and a mix of all of the above. My show dedicated to the music of Johnny Mercer a few years back was so well received that I thought it might be good to concentrate on one composer again. When I looked at the work of Irving Berlin, I could only wonder what's taken me so long. Address: 110 E. 2nd Street Days/Hours: Mon-Fri [-] |
| 9 : | BorN [+]Date : July 13 - 14, 2012Time : 8pm Location : Tulsa PAC Web : http://www.porticodanstheatre.org Portico Dans Theatre's newest full-length production, BorN, uses contemporary dance to chronicle a story of man who faces an unthinkable tragedy and his subsequent battle with body and mind. Eventually the sharp distinction between paranoia and waking life dissolves--leaving the man victim to face his own violent psychological demons. BorN runs in July 13-14, 2012 and is performed at the Tulsa PAC as part of the Summerstage Festival 2012. Tickets are $12-$15 and available via phone at 596-7111 or online at myticketoffice.com. BorN [Being or Nothingness] is an interdisciplinary performance installation with video, contemporary dance and live original music. Performers create other worldly environments with new media, interactive video, music and dance for film. Conceived by Co-Artistic Director, Michael J. Lopez, and performed by the Company of Portico Dans Theatre with original compositions by Jeff Porter of The Claptet. The main character must find his lost identity, family, and home. He is forced to embark on a journey along an empty road as he attempts to remember the events that led him there. One story line moves forward in time while the other reveals glimpses of his past. Contemporary Dance is activated by music to access the main character's memories about union and separation, which are stored in his body. Throughout the story his memories forcefully intrude and become more distorted as his body undergoes the stress of physical exhaustion and extreme hunger. BorN is a complicated head spinning adventure, which leaves you wondering where reality ends and dementia begins. Address: 110 E. 2nd ST. Days/Hours: Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14th both at 8pm Admission: $12-$15 [-] |

| 11 : | SummerStage Tulsa [+]Date : July 13, 2012Time : Various Location : Tulsa Performing Arts Center Web : http://www.tulsapactrust.org SummerStage Tulsa is a performing arts festival held during June and July in the Tulsa Performing Arts Center's various theatre spaces. Performances include a variety of disciplines from musicals, drama, comedy and dance to cabaret theatre events. SummerStage Tulsa provides local arts groups and individual artists the opportunity to work together in forming a showcase of artists from Tulsa and the surrounding communities. The result is a cohesive, colorful, balanced, diverse and high-energy festival that culminates in a unique departure from main season arts events and one that offers something for everyone. The Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust is a major sponsor of the festival providing free rent/security and administrative support to all participants. SummerStage Tulsa history SummerStage was originally organized in the 1980s to provide entertainment opportunities at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in the off-season. With no major productions scheduled during the summer months, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust offered to underwrite the cost of rent and security to five local arts organizations if they would produce events during July and August. In 2003, the Board of Trustees created a task force to examine the SummerStage festival and to produce a new model that would better reflect the Tulsa community as a whole. The festival was expanded from six to eight weeks and provided a greater variety of entertainment choices. The task force wanted to see more family events, more dance, more world music and the participation of more local artists from Tulsa's diverse community. Today SummerStage includes more than 30 local artists and arts organizations performing in approximately 40 different events. SummerStage Tulsa continues to grow as we see the roots of Tulsa Fringe taking shape. Address: 110 East 2nd Street Days/Hours: Mon-Fri. 9 am- 5:30 pm Admission: Various fees and festival passes.
