Main Street, Tulsa Web : http://www.cainsballroom.com LOTUS w/ MONTU Thursday - 2/23/2012 7:00pm | All Ages | $15 + fees adv / $21 door Never a group to be pigeonholed, Lotus brings many musical weapons to the stage. From festival stages such as Rothbury, Wakarusa and Red Rocks to theaters across the country the band has left grinning crowds dripping with sweat. Equal parts dance and rock, Lotus has been crafting a unique brand of instrumental rock for the past decade. Their latest release Oil on Glass/Feather on Wood "proves that no words are needed to elicit any feelings, the instrumentals alone are enough to connote a myriad of emotions." The dual EPs show the multiple sides of Lotus with Feather on Wood showcasing slow-building guitar driven compositions and Oil on Glass leaning toward harder beats and textures. Like a Lotus show, the two sides work together to form a cohesive whole. The big light show and pounding beats may be club inspired, but the band's ability to connect with the audience through emotive composition and dynamic improvisation pushes performances past the elusive barrier dividing concert and experience. | 12 : | Actors Company of Tulsa - Othello [+]Date : February 24, 2012Time : 1:00pm Location : Greenwood Cultural Center Web : http://www.othellotulsa.com OTHELLO by William Shakespeare In December, we began the fourth show of the season which is our first Shakespearean production. For this endeavor, we have chosen Shakespeare's "Othello"- a story of hate, jealousy and the ultimate consequences. For our convention we have chosen to set the play in 1921 Tulsa, Oklahoma- bringing a sense of history, turmoil, to ultimately heighten the circumstances in which a classic story can be illuminated by a time in Tulsa's history that this year shall be taught in Tulsa and Oklahoma schools for the first time. "Othello" will use the element of fire in all of the marketing and media. In development of our pre-production, we have assembled some of the best theater professionals in Tulsa to work with this show. The show will be directed by Bonny Downs, and will be produced under the Actors Company of Tulsa model. Our production team is assembled, the show is cast, and we are ready to launch this production. That is just the beginning. To create the world of the play, we will take elements from actual pictures of the devastation and aftermath of the Tulsa Race Riots. The elements will be used to influence the look and feel. Who: Actors Company of Tulsa What: Classic Story of Othello Set in 1921 Tulsa Where: Greenwood Cultural Center When: Feb 16, 17, 26 @ 7pm and Feb 19 and 24 at 1pm Our theatre space for the production of Othello by William Shakespeare will be the Greenwood Cultural Center. The Greenwood Cultural Center, dedicated on October 22, 1995, was created as a tribute to Greenwood's history and as a symbol of hope for the community's future. [-] |

| 28 : | Actors Company of Tulsa - Othello [+]Date : February 26, 2012Time : 7:00pm Location : Greenwood Cultural Center Web : http://www.othellotulsa.com OTHELLO by William Shakespeare In December, we began the fourth show of the season which is our first Shakespearean production. [-] |

| 33 : | The Test: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen [+]Date : January 14 - April 14, 2012Time : 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Location : Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium Web : http://www.tulsaairandspacemuseum.org From January 14 to April 14, 2012 Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium will host the traveling exhibit, The Test. This exhibition tells the story of the first African-American aviators to serve in the military of the United States. It is a story about their struggles in World War II combat overseas and against prejudice and racism in America. It is a very fascinating story that every American should know. While it is a very exciting story about men in war, flying incredible machines, locked in mortal combat miles above the earth, it is also a quintessential story about the continuing struggle to make America live up to its ideals, the struggle of every generation to make America more American. In April 1943 after months of training and preparation, the 99th Fighter Squadron, an aviation unit that consisted entirely of African-American personnel landed in North Africa. This was the beginning of the test phase of an experiment that began many months before at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama to determine if black men were capable of being effective combat aviators. Known as the Tuskegee Airmen, these men proved that not only were they capable of performing the mission given them but they excelled where others failed. Address: 3624 N. 74th E.
