Michael Carter joins VisitTulsa as vice president

Following an extensive nation-wide search, VisitTulsa is proud to announce the hiring of Michael Carter as the new VisitTulsa vice president. Carter will begin his new career path on Wednesday, April 16.

Michael Carter was born and raised in Tampa, Fla. and then moved to Alabama to attend Tuskegee University. While in college he played basketball for the Tuskegee Golden Tigers. Upon graduation Carter played professional basketball in Venezuela.

Following his basketball career, Carter returned to the U.S. to begin a successful career in corporate sales. His experience includes Coca-Cola, Gatorade and regional director of marketing for OmniCare Health. He then began his career in the hospitality industry with hotels such as The Ritz-Carlton and Starwood. Carter worked for VisitSavannah, Loudoun Convention and Visitors Bureau and most recently the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau.

"VisitTulsa team is extremely excited to welcome Michael to Tulsa," said Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission. "His experiences will provide a new perspective to assist with VisitTulsa's mission of making this region a premier tourism and sports destination."

Throughout his career, Carter has been active in American Society of Association Executives, Professional Convention Management Association, Meeting Professionals International and Georgia Society of Association Executives. He is a member of the 100 Black Men of America and volunteers with United Service Organizations.
