Drillers Coming Home from Brief 4-Day Homestand

Published: 6.2.16

Tulsa Driller Baseball Player

The Tulsa Drillers return to ONEOK Field for their fifth homestand of the year as they take on one of their North Division rivals in the Northwest Arkansas Naturals beginning Tuesday, June 7.

The Drillers will host the Naturals (Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) June 7-10 before hitting the road again for an 8-game road trip.

Although the Naturals will only be in town for four days, the two clubs will play five games thanks to a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 7 to make up a game that was rained out in April. Gates will open at 4:00 PM for the doubleheader with the first game scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM. Game two is expected to start at 7:05 PM.

The game on Wednesday, June 8 will have the first pitch thrown at 12:05 PM with gates opening at 11:00 AM. The final two games on Thursday and Friday, June 9-10 will each begin at 7:05 PM with gates opening at 6:00 PM.

Promotions in the homestand will include:

  • Doubleheader and $2 Tuesday on Tuesday, June 7
  • Final weekday, day game of the year on Wednesday, June 8
  • Back-to-Back Postgame Fireworks Shows on Thursday and Friday, June 9-10

The complete promotional list for the homestand is below.

Individual tickets for all games in the homestand are currently available for purchase online at, in person at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office (201 N. Elgin Avenue) or over the phone at (918) 744-5901. Any tickets purchased for Tuesday, June 7 will be good for admission to both games.

DOES MAY HAVE TO BE OVER? Following a rough month of April that saw Tulsa go just 8-13, the club really turned things around in May. The Drillers went 17-11 during the second month of the season and would have likely tied their previous best record for May since 2006 if it weren't for a late off day and a rainout in Frisco to end the month. The 2006 Drillers club went 18-11 in May of that year.

PITCHERS SETTING THE TONE: The Drillers winning ways have seen contributions from each aspect of the club, but the pitchers have been especially dominant. The Tulsa staff currently leads the Texas League with a 2.98 team ERA as the club enters June, and is also ranked third in strikeouts with 420 in 444.2 total innings. The 2.98 ERA mark also stands as the second-best team ERA in all of Double-A behind only the Hartford Yard Goats in the Eastern League who have a 2.85 staff ERA.

RECORD AGAINST OPPONENT: The Drillers have historically played well against the Naturals at ONEOK Field as Tulsa holds a 44-34 record against Northwest Arkansas going into the series. After losing eight of the first nine games against their rivals to start the year, the Drillers got things turned around a bit their last time playing the Naturals as they won the final two games in Springdale on their last road trip.
